Ms Herlig in an effort to educate the Swiss about radiographers in Switzerland placed a large order for the faction book. The novel, the first to feature a radiographer in a lead role, is generating National and International interest in both the public and radiography communities.
The novel is written with primarily the general public in mind. The diverse roles, dilemmas and emotions experienced by radiographers and all examinations involving x-rays are portrayed in a simple easy to understand manner through the characters in the book.
Anne Marie Conway, Head of Radiography at Queen Margaret University Edinburgh, made the following comment to the author:
“….You have done a lot to educate the public on the role of radiographers without glorifying the job…. I’m going to be discussing having the book recommended for all healthcare students in the university through the Interprofessional Education modules that we have…”
Richard Evans, Chief Executive of The Society and College of Radiographers opines:
“…I have… finished reading (the book). Very well done. It is a great story and certainly highlights radiography brilliantly….”
The book attempts to raise the profile of radiographers by its characters. The profession has struggled to attract positive media attention which is affecting recruitment and retention issues. A shortage of radiographers is leading to a bottle neck in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in hospitals. The novel therefore hopes to interest school leavers to view radiographer as a worthwhile career.
