Sonographers

Ultrasound in Australia has a long and prosperous ultrasound heritage, with some of the first units developed by Australian scientists. Ultrasound has been enthusiastically adopted by the medical community as an affordable and accessible non-invasive diagnostic tool. Because of this high demand for diagnostic ultrasound services, Australia suffers from a desperate shortage of well trained medical sonographers.

Prior to continuing your ultrasound career in Australia, overseas trained sonographers need to register with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry.
With only ultrasound qualifications obtained in Australia or New Zealand immediately accepted and recognised by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry, graduates from all other countries must apply to the Australian Institute of Radiography for eligibility in the form of a Certificate of Recognition in Ultrasound.
The good news is that no examinations need to be written and you can apply for an asessment of both your ultrasound and radiography credentials simultaneously by the Australian Institute of Radiography, for a single fee.

We have created an information pack that deals with the accreditation process and also gives basic information about costs and visas. It is available for download at the following link, and will also be automatically forwarded as a pdf file to your email inbox for you to review later at your leisure.
